As an educational non-profit F&J works to enhance Centrist Public Policy development and implementation in Texas through civic and interfaith engagement. We elevate the organized Texas Muslim community's public policy voice with local, state and federal level government officials. Though we support civil and religious liberties policy advocacy, our focus is in the formulation of Education and Heath Care Policy at the Local and State Levels and National Security Policy in the US-Muslim Relations Sphere at the Federal Level. We organize a Bi-Annual Texas Muslims Legislative Day (TMLD) event in the Texas State Capitol where citizens are educated on State Public Policy and how to influence it. We also fund the Texas Muslims Scholarship Fund (TMSF) to increase the number of Muslims pursuing public affairs careers.
F&J coordinates a statewide membership body for Islamic Centers (Mosques/Masajid) named the Texas Islamic Council (T.I.C.) with member congregations spanning from Tyler to El Paso and Dallas-Fort Worth down to Austin and Houston. Though the TIC Project was recently launched in 2005, it has quickly grown to include enough congregations to make it the largest single representative body for Texas Muslims and has allowed F&J to develop a strong working relationship with its state-level counter-parts in other faith-based communities.
Living up to its motto of "Connecting the Dots", F&J was empowered by the Texas Islamic Council (TIC) member congregations in June 2006 to launch the Triumph Over Terror (TOT) Project. The TOT Project is tackling the thorny issue of how to effectively define our enemy in the Global War on Terror without alienating allies and empowering adversaries unnecessarily. |
