Join UsDear Fellow Texas Muslims,
Today our nation finds itself under siege and this has had a blowback affect upon the American Muslim community. We only have one choice in this Global War on Terror and that is to aid our country in fighting off those who wish it ill while at the same time strengthening our community's public interface with the larger society. Our community has suffered and continues to suffer from needless marginalization by hate groups as well as overzealous prosecutions by our government of the most vulnerable amongst us.
Today Texas Muslims are helping meet our homeland security needs on the local, state, national and international levels; and from our perspective at F&J we're seeing more happening every day. This isn't the type of work that gets much press attention, and Muslims suffer for that daily. But the ultimate solution to the terrorist threat oversees, the marginalization of American Muslims by hate groups and the selective prosecution by our government is an empowered American Muslim community able to speak and defend its interests.
Our Mosques and Islamic Schools must be strengthened so that they may outreach and engage a larger segment of society. There are 254 counties in Texas, but less then 20 have a free standing Muslim Congregational infrastructure. Our anti-discrimination and advocacy groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations chapters in Texas should also be strengthened, because many times they are the first stop for a Muslim citizen or immigrant when discriminated against at his job, home or by his own government.
F&J is the Texas Muslim community's first truly statewide organization, and now we also have staff covering our state's Congressional delegation in Washington DC. The trust and confidence our organization has been able to earn from community leaders all across the Lone Star State drove us to establish the Texas Islamic Council so that the Muslim Congregational voice may be heard. It is very important that the Texas Muslim community function at the same level as the Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Jewish and other faith communities. No one will dumb down the rules of the game for us in order to play.
As the Texas Muslim community's first public policy organization, we're trailblazing a path so that Muslims can have a seat at the table defining their daily lives. Muslims have a tremendous amount of charity for all of God's people, and it's through efforts like the reinstatement of funds cut to the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), free health clinics for the uninsured or other social policy projects that many Muslims are finding their calling. Texans are a friendly and proud people. They're ready for us to stand up and run with them at a community-wide level. I encourage you to do your part and support our organization's work bringing Muslims to the forefront all across the Lone Star State. Please join us as a donor today! While donations of any amount are welcomed, it is our sustaining donors with a consistent amount on a monthly basis that allows F&J to budget best our activism.
Joining our email list and activist network is free to all.
Thank you,
President of F&J
