Hughes, Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Appointed by President Bush to help ensure that public diplomacy (engaging, informing, and influencing key international audiences) is practiced in harmony with public affairs (outreach to Americans) and traditional diplomacy to advance U.S. interests and security and to provide the moral basis for U.S. leadership in the world. Undersecretary Hughes has served as lead spokesperson on diplomacy, public affairs, the Global War on Terror and promoting American values to the Muslim World. AND Numerous V.I.P. Problem: There exists a negative perception of Muslims in America and a shortage of Muslims in public-influencing fields to correct it.

Solution: Following in the footsteps of other minority groups in America, the Texas Muslims Scholarship Fund (TMSF) awards scholarships to well-qualified students studying in fields where Muslims are under-represented.
--->Through a quiet campaign, we raised $12,000 to award for the 2007-2008 academic year.
--->Scholarship recipients are required to volunteer their skills and resources back into the community after graduation.
---->For the 2007-2008 academic year the Muslims Scholarship Fund Project gave out $12,000 in Scholarships to students studying Law, Journalism, and Social Work.
